An Author Reading: Lori Weber


On Wednesday evening, I attended an author reading at Ross King Memorial Library in Mount Pearl. Lori Weber is a YA novelist from Montreal Quebec and she was in town to promote her latest novel If You Live Like Me, a story set in St. John’s Newfoundland.   The protagonist, Cheryl,  is sixteen and in the throes of yet another upheaval when her anthropologist father announces they must move house once again, this time to the city of St. John’s Newfoundland.   The story details her struggle to fit in and make friends at a time when life  is already fraught with insecurity.   She eventually  meets a neighbour, a boy named Jim, who becomes a close friend and confidant.  Together they help each other find their way across the rocky terrain of adolescence.   The story is a timeless portrait of young love and Lori Weber has done…
